Custom segments in Google Analytics

A custom segment in Google Analytics is a set of filters that helps us understand and interpret data. Segments display a subset of data from Google Analytics.

A segment is made up of filters, which do not alter the underlying data in any way, i.e. they do not remove filtered data. These filters isolate and separate data subsets at the level of: Users, Sessions and Hits.

This allows you to filter by different subsets at the same time.

User Subsets: Users who have completed a transaction or reached the cart page without completing the purchase.
Session Subset: All sessions from a specific campaign or all sessions that resulted in a conversion
Hits Subset: Event Hits that have interacted with a video or image on the web or Transaction Hits that have led to a conversion.
Product subset : Behaviors associated with products, conversions of a product, sessions on a product page, etc. (only available if metrics related to products are used)
Creating Segments in Google Analytics
To create a custom segment, we will have to;
From the Analytics Main View > Manage > View > Tools & Personal Items > Segments > + Create Segment.
When we have to create a Custom Segment, it is important to add all the filters that are relevant to our segmentation.
We will be able to choose from a wide variety of characteristics that we want our segment to consist of.

The segmentation groups are as follows:

Demographic groups
Technology
Behavior
Date of the first session
Traffic source
Enhanced e-commerce
Conditions
Sequences

Once we have chosen all the parameters and filters that interest us, we click on Save .
