Every now and then, you get an unexpect request. No matter where you work. That’s why, as a company that makes electronic sirens, we were stunn when, more than two years ago, an email request land in our inbox for an upcoming documentary about the sound of public address systems and the environments in which they are us . A feature-length documentary by a British filmmaker with a pseudonym that falls more on the other side of the artistic spectrum, Aura Satz, PhD.
The overall process of creating
Any piece of art often requires a lot of time, effort, preparation and, in today’s world, bureaucracy. Well, it’s debatable whether this also applies to contemporary art. Before visiting Telegrafia, the Aura advanced photo retouching production team travel to places like Fukushima in Japan, Lapland, America, the Netherlands and their homeland, the UK. After months of waiting, filming and messaging each other, we aim to accommodate the artist’s every wish during her two days of shooting with us.
At least it’s atmospheric
May days in Slovakia are changeable, and unfortunately, like Anakin, the weather chose its dark side. So the meeting of our guests was accompani by drops of rain. But even this did not spoil the strange, tense and exciting feeling of a new and unusual meeting. Aura was accompani by her producer Luke W. Moody and Slovak director Michaela Hošková, the cameraman of this documentary for Slovakia.
We had two days at our disposal, divid by a sch ule that, of course, had to be adjust on the fly, not only because of the weather. Because of the emphasis on the visual aspect, the most interesting for the camera were the shots of our sirens in the acoustic-soundproof chamber. Its atmosphere perfectly conveys the tension and fear of the sound of sirens and, at the same time, the loneliness of a person in critical situations.
At least, this is how this environment evokes in me
The main actors inside were the Pavian siren horn loudspeaker sets and the latest prototype of the round horn loudspeaker of the Pavian Car mobile electronic siren . The second most exciting element for the camera’s eye in the room was the oven in which our horns and siren electronic units are frozen at minus 40 degrees Celsius. However, this was not the only thing that was film in our place.
And action!
Outdoor shooting was equally exciting, at least from an adventurous point of view. Here we chose locations that had been check out several times by our camera lenses: the Bukovets reservoir to present the EMA monitoring station , and the quarry in Yaklovci to demonstrate the Mona siren . Without further ado, believe me, the climb to the quarry test changes before making them will be remember by everyone involv for a long time. Although the weather here and there was not to our liking, as I mention earlier, it still improv when we ne it most and allow us to at least get some drone footage afterwards. Finally, fog and clouds are perhaps better suit for shooting sirens than the sun. The two days flew by faster than we expect .
Through the prism of time
Two days, about a day, tens of kilometers, hundr s of aero leads takes and who knows, maybe even their incalculable cost. Time will tell. Perhaps only in a few years we will see what contribution we made to the upcoming documentary. However, I must say that we did everything possible and show what we could. The rest is no longer in our hands. All that remains is to wait and look forward to the final product, in which we will enthusiastically seek out footage of our company.
